HONORABLE DEE JOHNSON
Dee Johnson grew up in the Texas Hill Country. She graduated from U.T. Austin with a degree in Government in 1987 and St. Mary’s School of Law in 1990. She was the first in her family to graduate college. She was a briefing attorney for the 2d Court of Appeals before entering the field of civil litigation. After 32 years of trial practice she was the first woman elected to the 47th District Court. She took the bench on August 1, 2022, following her appointment by Governor Greg Abbott. She began her elected term on January 1, 2023. Judge Johnson presides over civil, felony criminal, and family matters across Potter, Randall and Armstrong County. Judge Johnson enjoys working with students of all ages to hold mock trials and learn about our legal system.
Judge Johnson is a member and former president of the Amarillo Chapter of American Board of Advocates. Over the years she has been active in multiple local civic and professional organizations, including the Amarillo Bar Association, Women’s Bar Association and Panhandle Family Law Association. She is a lifetime member of the State Bar Foundation and a member of the State Bar College.
She serves on the Juvenile Probation Boards for Potter, Armstrong and Randall Counties, on the board of the Panhandle Dispute Resolution Center and has served on the nominations committee for the Texas Center for the Judiciary.
